Libraries

KAP makes every effort to be a library-friendly publisher, and libraries and librarians have always been important customers. We pay a lot of attention to providing customers with current information, efficient distribution, easy ordering methods, and to establish personal contacts through local and international agents and representatives.

We have a ready ear for librarians‘ concerns and want to help find solutions to their collection-related problems. For example, there has been much discussion among the library community about the concept of firm prices for journal subscriptions. Kluwer is one of the few publishers to have always set firm, early prices.

We have always been interested in trends and developments within the library community and track them closely. To this end we participate in library conferences world-wide and are an active member of several national and international library associations including: IFLA, EBLIDA, ALA, SLA, LIBER, UKSG, NAG, and NVB.

Discussions with Librarians

We recognize the importance of direct contact with librarians: being a member of a number of associations is not enough. KAP representatives participate in many national and international library conferences -- including the UKSG Annual Conference, the European Serials Conference, the Bibliothekartag (Germany), the IFLA Annual General Meeting, the LIBER Annual Conference, the UK Library Resources Exhibition, the SLA Annual Conference, the ALA Conferences, and many more.

KAP uses these conferences to:

  • gain insight into trends and developments
  • provide information about KAP and its publications
  • engage in constructive dialogues with librarians

Some of the topics which KAP would like to discuss with librarians include:

  • the future of publishing (and of librarianship)
  • new media and new products
  • bibliographic control of new products
  • what librarians will expect from publishers in the future
  • access versus ownership
  • standards and services

You are wholeheartedly invited to participate in these discussions.
